Virat Kohli to be brand ambassador of Border Security Force

New Delhi:  Indian cricket team's batting mainstay Virat Kohli will soon be appointed as the new brand ambassador of the country's second largest paramilitary force Border Security Force (BSF).

Kohli has been roped in by the BSF in order to bolster the appeal of the 2.5-lakh personnel strong force which is primarily tasked to guard two crucial Indian borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The ace right-handed batsman will be honoured at a special event in the national capital and brought into the BSF family later this week, sources said.

BSF chief Subhash Joshi and other senior officials of the force will officially welcome him as an ambassador even as the young cricketer will talk to the men and officials of the force about his strides in the game and hardwork.

This is the first time that a central paramilitary force has appointed a brand ambassador.

A senior BSF officer said Kohli's remarkable achievements on the cricketing field and the forces' indomitable work image for ensuring the security of the country will attract the youth of the country and evoke an appeal towards the working and dedication of the force.

The 25-year-old cricketer made his Test debut in a series against the West Indies in 2011 and is going strong since then, including playing a vital role in India's World Cup win in 2011 and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy title.

The BSF, under the command of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is also tasked for conducting anti-Naxal operations in the country besides rendering a variety of roles in maintaining internal security.
